Cortney’s construction journey began at California Polytechnic State University, where she earned a degree in Construction Management. She joined SC Builders as an intern and quickly transitioned into a full-time role as a Project Engineer, steadily advancing to Project Manager. Along the way, Cortney played a key role in delivering projects and supporting team growth. She recently relocated to Sacramento to help expand SC Builders’ presence in the region, contributing to the company’s continued growth and success.

I joined in 2016 after completing my internship in 2015.
Why do you think people join and stay at SC Builders? Why do you stay?
Our people make SC Builders special. I’ve been here for almost 10 years and have had the pleasure of being trained and mentored by many people I respect. I’ve also had the opportunity to train and work alongside a lot of smart, dedicated individuals!
What do you love about construction?
I like that it’s dynamic. We get to work on a wide variety of projects with different clients and end users, each with unique needs. Being part of those projects and seeing something get built and come to life is incredibly fulfilling!
What does great leadership mean to you?
Being supportive and nurturing, while taking initiative and responsibility, and staying driven, resourceful, and empowering.

What motivates you?
Feeling proud and satisfied with my performance. In both life and work, I strive to be someone others can look up to, and to feel confident in who I am and the work I do!

Favorite tradition?
— From the time I was 1 year old to 18, we spent every Fourth of July on our houseboat at New Melones Lake. It’s not something we do anymore, but will always be a special tradition to me.
