With this office space overhaul, open-source coding platform GitHub aimed to soften the masculine feel of their brick and timber-framed building while providing a variety of workspaces. The open floor plan incorporated conference, meeting, and phone rooms. Low ceilings and very limited natural lighting were alleviated with the addition of a 1-foot thick backlit fabric wall (Newmat). This wall runs continuously throughout the office and separates the central hub of meeting spaces from the surrounding spaces for focused work.

Project highlights include HVAC design, a quiet room, and a stairway with mezzanine which connects GitHub’s two buildings through a new opening on the third floor. The quiet room has a custom table along with five sit-in bookshelves and 10 reading carrels. The space also features a nap room and one of the first gender-inclusive restrooms installed in the city.
