SC Builders wants to support the causes that are important to our employees. We encourage our people to get involved through volunteering, and we match employee contributions up to $500 each year per employee. Shown here are a few of the organizations that SC Builders has supported in previous years.

Community support is an important part of our culture, and it starts at the top. Sam Abbey, principal of SC Builders, took time off from the commercial construction industry to join the Peace Corps and spent time working in Africa and South America improving the lives of others. SC Builders’ commitment to the community has continued with volunteer work and financial support of a number of organizations.

Playhouse Build
This summer, over thirty SC Builders employees (plus assorted family and friends) had a great time constructing playhouses under the direction of Habitat for Humanity. The colorful structures were then donated to four local families in the military, thanks to Blue Star Moms. Extra funds from SC Builders’ sponsorship will support the construction of an actual Habitat for Humanity home!

Big Bike Build
A core value of SC Builders is: “Give back to the community through volunteering time, money and resources.” One example is our sponsorship of and participation in the Big Bike Build, an annual event hosted by TurningWheels for Kids, a non-profit organization that distributes bikes to children of low-income families. This past December of 2015 marked our fourth consecutive year participating in the fundraiser. Our team of employees, spouses, and friends joined more than 950 community volunteers build over 2,500 bikes.

TurningWheels for Kids partners with numerous charities and community health organizations to encourage outdoor activities, prevent childhood obesity, and otherwise improve kids’ health and well-being.

Rebuilding Together
Silicon Valley
In 2012, 30 SC Builders volunteers performed repairs and upgrades to three mobile homes for the low-income residents. Among the tasks completed were fixing dry rot framing, kitchen cabinets, hinges, joists, flooring, plugs and light switches; painting exteriors, sealing and caulking windows; and installing a new refrigerator, garbage disposal, sink and counter top in each of the kitchens. The photos below are from our 2011 Rebuilding Together project, in which 40 SC Builders volunteers significantly refurbished and made safer a disabled senior's South San Jose home.

Charity Bocce Tournament
turning wheels
October 2016 marked the sixth annual SC Builders Charity Bocce Tournament. We invited clients, architects, and others to compete in this fun and rewarding event held at Campo de Bocce in Los Gatos. Spirited but friendly competitors sought to win a cash prize for their preferred not-for-profit organization. Prizes go to first, second, and third place teams. The first place team of 2016 generated a $1,000 donation to the 3rd Street Community Center, second place sent $750 to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, and third place won $500 for Habitat for Humanity.

Rebuilding Together
Peninsula
SC Builders, along with Hayes Group Architects, created a unique children’s playhouse for the Dreams Happen Gala & Playhouse Auction for Rebuilding Together Peninsula. The Time Transporter was on display at the Stanford Shopping Center, patiently waiting to be auctioned off. Proceeds collected for all donated playhouses will help cover the operating costs for Rebuilding Together’s Peninsula location, allowing them the opportunity to continue to provide housing for the community.
